Tumor cell plasticity, heterogeneity, and resistance in crucial microenvironmental niches in glioma

چکیده

Abstract Both the perivascular niche (PVN) and integration into multicellular networks by tumor microtubes (TMs) have been associated with progression resistance to therapies in glioblastoma, but their specific contribution remained unknown. By long-term tracking of cell fate dynamics live mouse brain, differential therapeutic responses both niches are determined. PVN, a preferential location quiescent glioma cells, network facilitate against cytotoxic effects radiotherapy chemotherapy—independently each other, additive effects. Perivascular glioblastoma cells particularly able actively repair damage regions. Population PVN it depend on proficient NOTCH1 expression. In turn, downregulation induces resistant TM extension. Our findings identify as central switch between glioma, demonstrate robust cross-compensation when only one is targeted.

Erythroblastic islands: specialized microenvironmental niches for erythropoiesis.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review focuses on current understanding of molecular mechanisms operating within erythroblastic islands including cell-cell adhesion, regulatory feedback, and central macrophage function. RECENT FINDINGS Erythroblasts express a variety of adhesion molecules and recently two interactions have been identified that appear to be critical for island integrity. Erythroblast m...

heterogeneity within the orientalist discourse: representation of the orient in womens travelogues and mens paintings

from 1950s onward, new theories and critical approaches burgeoned across humanities. these theories were context-oriented; as a result, the analysis of discursive practices gained significance. thus, social, political, historical and cultural discourses that have been hitherto marginalized and considered inferior to literary texts, were introduced as important texts to be analyzed by critics. o...

Stem cell heterogeneity and plasticity in epithelia.

Epithelia cover the surfaces and line the cavities of the body. Recent studies have highlighted the existence of multiple stem cell compartments within individual epithelia that exhibit striking plasticity in response to tissue damage, transplantation, or tumor development. New knowledge about the composition of the epithelial niche and the transcription factor networks that maintain cell ident...

Cell plasticity and heterogeneity in cancer.

BACKGROUND Heterogeneity within a given cancer arises from diverse cell types recruited to the tumor and from genetic and/or epigenetic differences amongst the cancer cells themselves. These factors conspire to create a disease with various phenotypes. There are 2 established models of cancer development and progression to metastatic disease. These are the clonal evolution and cancer stem cell ...

Tumor Heterogeneity and Drug Resistance

Title of dissertation: MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF TUMOR HETEROGENEITY AND DRUG RESISTANCE James Greene, Doctor of Philosophy, 2015 Dissertation directed by: Professor Doron Levy Department of Mathematics In this dissertation we develop mathematical models of tumor heterogeneity and drug resistance in cancer chemotherapy. Resistance to chemotherapy is one of the major causes of the failure of cancer...
